My Teaching

The processes of helping an artist understand their instrument is of key importance to their development as a person, in addition to their development as a singer and actor. Every student’s voice is entirely unique and it is my firm belief that every singer should sing with his or her own natural or naked instrument. It is there that they will find their most genuine and beautiful sounds. I have researched the methodologies of various voice teachers throughout history and have studied several voice and speech pedagogies, including Alexander Technique and Linklater work, concentrating on how to use them to help my students find unrestricted vocal production.

Drawing from this research, I have been able to accumulate many different ways of approaching any given vocal issue that stands in the way of a singer producing their best sounds. I believe in helping my students become healthy, versatile performers who are comfortable on stage in whatever capacity they are required to be, whether that’s in an opera, a musical, or a play. With these principles in mind, I strive to create a nurturing studio environment so that my students feel the support they need to experiment and take risks. The overall health of the student, vocally, emotionally, and physically, is of the utmost importance in their development as artists.
